Major Lazer – Hold The Line (Kozee Remix)

Kozee

Third free tune today comes from Kozee here in San Francisco. This one’s a remix of Major Lazer – Hold The Line featuring Mr. Lexx and Santogold.  Major Lazer is Diplo and Switch, bringing the number of big names involved in this remix to 5.  The original is sick, and the remix does not disappoint.  If this doesn’t make you dance you’ve got something wrong with your booty.

If you’re feeling this, don’t miss the next Makeout session on the 22nd.

HD4000 – Fake Rekkidz and Guess Who

HD4000Next up is a pair of tunes from Bakersfield, CA based production duo HD4000 made up of Odeed (left) and Wish (right).  They just wrecked shop at Headband in Santa Cruz by all accounts last weekend.  Keep your eyes out for dates with them on the West coast.

The first tune is ‘Fake Rekkidz’ which is a big refix of Dead Prez’s wobbly hiphop anthem ‘Hip Hop.’  This one’s dangerous, bonefide party rocker.

‘Guess Who’ is the second tune given out which is my personal favorite of the pair.  The original from Black Uhuru is an all time favorite reggae tune of mine so I’m really feeling this remix.  Big tings.

Bassnectar – Bassnectar’s Superstylin Smashup

BassnectarI’m happy to post three sets of free tunes today, the first coming from San Francisco basswise badman Bassnectar. He also recently handed out his Kingston Town refix, get on that if you missed it the first time.  This one’s a rework of Groove Armada’s 2001 track “Superstylin.” This starts out pretty mellow and then a tyrannosaurus rex wobble comes in to take over the scene.  It’s reminiscent of the original but more dubstepwise.

Bassnectar is about to start a US tour this May and has a new single forthcoming with Tapper Zukie on the mic.  Big respect, keep an eye out especially West coasters for tour dates in your area, full list here.

Redline Volume 2 Mixed by Blackheart

Blackheart Redline MixThis big mix from Blackheart out of Oakland, CA done for the Redline mix series is a must listen. Blackheart is a trio of Swatchdog, DOS, Preep and definitely light up the dance when I’ve seen them.  They just played at the Makeout sessions last night which you can check out on the dubstep.fm archives.  Give this one a listen and big them up on their myspace or on groundscore.  See them live next at Machine Gun Funk down in San Jose or surely soon again in the city.

COTK – We Are The Glitch (Eskmo Remix) Video

While posting videos I thought I’d also put up this one I’ve been sitting on for a bit now, the Street Artist Pictures video of Eskmo’s remix of We Are The Glitch by Coalition of the Killing.  The sound on this one is similar to Eskmo’s recent Hypercolor EP and the Meditation Point remix, reminiscent of gothic robots or complex machinery moving around with the beat.  If you’re feeling this sound check out Eskmo on May 9th at Club Six for the monthly Veni Vidi Vici event.

The producers of this video are Street Artist Pictures also out of San Francisco, check out their main site or their myspace for more updates.  The darkness of Eskmo’s remix is matched by the darkness of the video.  Girls made up like dolls writhe about and cry for unknown reasons.  Edits go along with the glitchy feel and all in all the video matches the song very well.  Nice to see proper videos done for dubstep songs, it’s quite rare.  Respect to all involved.

DJ /rupture on Cumbia in San Francisco from XLR8R TV

I was debating whether or not to post this since it’s not strictly dubstep but when I saw the opening scene in Taqueria Cancun (my favorite taqueria of the city) I had to do it.  DJ/rupture discusses his recent appearance with Bersa Discos at Tormenta Tropical and takes you on a brief tour of Mission District bootleg Cumbia shops.  Respect to all basswise vibes and the Bersa Discos crew, can’t recommend going enough if you like booty shaking.  Thanks to XLR8R TV on the interview.
