The Spit Brothers mix it up for 2010

Bakir & Dubsworth form The Spit Brothers, a duo based in San Francisco focusing on the use of live instruments in bass music who just put out a mix for 2010 that has more exclusives than a Washington DC dinner party.  The two are prolific and write excellent music using Dubsworth’s guitar skills & Bakir’s various talents on instruments like the clavinet, trumpet, flugelhorn, and keys.  Oh, and also bass.  Lots of bass.  Highlights on this come from their own label Dubs Alive along with releases on Brap Dem, Full Melt and Sub Life.  Lots of the tracks on this are slated for release on a Spit Brothers full-length album coming sometime in the future so keep your eyes out for that one.

This music draws from all sounds: synthesizers, samples, instruments, vocals, pretty much anything.  For your eardrums.  Click the arrow on the widget below to download this one.

A Taste of Blackheart

It’s time for a sampler of some fresh Blackheart material. The trio of Swatchdog, DOS and Preep out of Oakland, CA have been rocking parties around the bay and beyond for time now and their fresh material is bangin. Dates coming up in SF, Oakland, Burning Man, and more. Look out also for “Jupiter” forthcoming on Brap Dem Recordings, that one’s major.

Blackheart – Dazed

I’m starting with my personal favorite which builds off a Led Zeppelin sample, a sparse halftime beat, and effected out guitars into a seriously deep tune. This reminds me of some of the live guitar work that Dubsworth has been doing lately, which is definitely a good thing.

Blackheart – Airbag VIP

This VIP is a bassline roller. Watch out if you’ve got your sub turned up, this might blast you out of your seat. Effected out guitars are in full effect again with an aggressive lead synth to match. Bass lovers listen for the second drop at around 3:40, it’s massive. Proper dancefloor rocker.

Blackheart – Kitten

Kitten is another of the deeper persuasion with builds that take you back to the depths and a spacious, almost ghostly feel.  I love the switches in the rhythm in this one & the sound design, very well produced.

Blackheart – Mission

Last in these four selections is Mission, a wobbly dubstep riddim complete with 80’s era synth horns and upbeat reggae synths.  Bubble to this one.  These four together show diverse and quality productions coming from Blackheart, keep your ears open for more.

For more visit Blackheart’s myspace, or check out their past releases.  If you’re in the bay area they play out often in SF as part of the Redline crew, for those afar check out their shows on Dubstep.fm with one coming this Thursday.

Sam Supa – Darkness and Hype – Brap Dem Promo Mix

This new mix from Sam Supa (Grime City, Brap Dem) is a diverse and quality selection of fresh dubstep tunes.  The mixing is excellent, Sam is a pro blender (KitchenAid quality).  Lots of big tunes on this one but my favorites are Von D – Show Me, Kial – Bell Curve, and Jakes – Custard Cream.  This one’s dangerous.  Download & enjoy, then come see Sam live in action tonight or at the next Grime City.
