Dhyan Møller - Quirkey Remixes EP on Blipswitch

Quirkey Donkey RemixesOut tomorrow on Blipswitch recordings is this three track remix EP by diverse artists DJG, Mossmoss, and Metaphase.  I’ve been playing the DJG and Metaphase remixes and the Mossmoss is equally nice.  Blipswitch compares this one to the Coalition of the Killing remix EP they put out a while ago which is definitely appropriate.  Both are packed with quality tracks remixed in diverse styles by excellent producers.

Dhyan Møller - Lost in 3’s (DJG Remix)

DJG sets this one off with a deeper dubstep remix of the tune Lost in 3’s.  DJG included this one in his set for Mary Anne Hobbs a while ago, it caught my ears and has been stuck since, big remix.

Dhyan Møller - Quirkey Donkey (Mossmoss Remix)

Mossmoss stays more true to the original on his take of Quirkey Donkey, dubby techno sounds with playful synths. Feeling this remix definitely.

Dhyan Møller - Quirkey Donkey (Metaphase Remix)

Keeping only select elements of the source material and spicing it up with a wobble Metaphase comes with a more in your face dubstep version of Quirkey Donkey.  Strong bass helps round out the tune keeping the midrange in check, very nice remix.

J. Rogers Blipswitch Mixed (dub techno vs dubstep)

Blipswitch Mixed 2009J. Rogers from the Blipswitch label put together this excellent mix that takes you in and out of dub techno and dubstep, in their typical style.  Some big tunes inside cataloging the last year or so of Blipswitch releases.  The tracklist is big, with entries from DZ, DJG, J. Rogers, Kush Arora, and many more.  It clocks in at about 53 minutes with a relatively short tracklist but there some epic blends in this so the pace is good.  One for the techno lovers.  Give it a listen:

Mundo - Creep bw J Rogers Dub-Tek Odyssey Mix

Mundo - CreepDub Assembly headman and longtime dubstepper Mundo out of Dallas - Fort Worth, Texas brings a tasty offering to the table with “Creep” out online everywhere next Tuesday the 14th.  This one’s recommended for Basic Channel lovers (Rhythm & Sound, Maurizio) and anyone into the more dub techno side of dubstep.  Another strong entry in this vein from SF based Blipswitch Digital. Give a listen if you like the deeper side of things: Headhunter, DJG, Jus Wan, T++, etc.

Mundo - Creep

This one out to the cymbal fiends.  Creep doesn’t follow the standard dubstep “intro drop bridge 2nddrop outro” structure and instead fades back and forth between two different beats which makes it excellent for blending. Seriously ominous bass here which with the relentless cymbal make me think of a cloud of locusts on the horizon creeping at you.  I love the parts when the cymbal switches up, really danceable.  Listen for yourself:

Mundo - Creep (J. Rogers Dub-Tek Odyssey Mix)

J. Rogers takes it darker on the remix keeping the atmospherics from the original and adding a 4×4 beat producing a solid dub techno song - that is until the halftime bits.  Lots of people draw from dub techno when making dubstep but I haven’t heard a lot of cross-pollination in the other direction.  The halftime segments in the Odyssey mix seal the deal, can’t get enough.  Hits a little after 2 minutes in this clip:

J. Rogers - Meditation Point (Eskmo Mix)

J. Rogers - Meditation PointSF’s Blipswitch digital comes with another hybrid dub-tek & dubstep release.  The original on this one by dub techno veteran J. Rogers is a nice bouncy dubbed out piece with excellent vocal ambiance.  Eskmo mutates the sound by taking it up to 140bpm with a halftime beat and adding machinery-like noises to the mix.  This remix is similar to the sound of his recent Hypercolor EP.  The second drop on this remix is incredible, stick around until the end of this clip.  There’s also other mixes from Chris Fortier and Alland Byallo but I’m focusing on the original and Eskmo remix.

Coalition of the Killing - We Are The Glitch Remixes (DJG, Eskmo, Rozanski, J Rogers)

Coalition of the Killing - We are the Glitch RemixesOut tomorrow (3/24) exclusively on Addictech is this four-track EP of remixes of Coalition of the Killing on San Francisco based Blipswitch Digital.  It includes two different takes on “We Are The Glitch” from DJG and Eskmo, a dark refix of “Psychobabble” by Rozanski, and a dub techno rework of “You Are Everything Also” by J. Rogers.  Straight to the tunes:

Coalition of the Killing - We Are The Glitch (DJG Remix)

First up is DJG’s remix of “We Are The Glitch,” a deep, heavy stepper guaranteed to mash up the dance.  Sublow bass carries the song along with melodic pads and killer bongos.  Really enjoying this tune, highlight of the EP in my book.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Coalition of the Killing - You Are Everything Also (J. Rogers Everything is Nothing Too Mix)

The second song on the EP is a reworking of “You Are Everything Also” by J Rogers (the Everything Is Nothing Too mix).  This one slows it down to 133bpm in a dub techno style.  This is typical of Blipswitch releases, everything walks the thin line between dubstep and dub techno.  This one’s got a wobble that would rival any dubstep song with IDM-like clicks and bleeps in the treble from the original.  Quality.

Coalition of the Killing - We Are The Glitch (Eskmo Remix)

Third up is the Eskmo remix of We Are The Glitch.  This one is more minimal overall than the DJG remix with a glitchy melody and deep bass.  Watch out for the 4×4 bits though at about 2:45, definitely hype!

Coalition of the Killing - Psychobabble (Rozanski Psychotic Dub)

Finally we have audio murderation courtesy Rozanski on the Psychobabble (Rozanski Psychotic Dub) version.  A dirty lead synth floats along over 4×4 and halftime beats.  One for the filth massive.  Big it!
