J. Rogers Blipswitch Mixed (dub techno vs dubstep)

Blipswitch Mixed 2009J. Rogers from the Blipswitch label put together this excellent mix that takes you in and out of dub techno and dubstep, in their typical style.  Some big tunes inside cataloging the last year or so of Blipswitch releases.  The tracklist is big, with entries from DZ, DJG, J. Rogers, Kush Arora, and many more.  It clocks in at about 53 minutes with a relatively short tracklist but there some epic blends in this so the pace is good.  One for the techno lovers.  Give it a listen:

Mellow Mixes for Sunday

A pair of mixes today from KidLogic from LA and J. Rogers of Blipswitch here in SF.  Both are on the deeper side of things and are perfect for chilling out on a Sunday.  Been rinsing them pretty heavily myself, just getting around to posting them up now.

KidLogic – Mix for Sundays

First up is KidLogic’s “Mix for Sundays” which is an adventure through styles from dubstep to funky and the wonderful ground in between.  Big tunes in the mix and the blending is excellent.  Check out his virb player for recent productions, highly recommended.  This mix is exclusive to dubstepped thanks to KL, respect.  Check out his shows on dubstep.fm if you’re enjoying this one, he’s usually on the Supernormous Sessions.

COTK – We Are The Glitch (Eskmo Remix) Video

While posting videos I thought I’d also put up this one I’ve been sitting on for a bit now, the Street Artist Pictures video of Eskmo’s remix of We Are The Glitch by Coalition of the Killing.  The sound on this one is similar to Eskmo’s recent Hypercolor EP and the Meditation Point remix, reminiscent of gothic robots or complex machinery moving around with the beat.  If you’re feeling this sound check out Eskmo on May 9th at Club Six for the monthly Veni Vidi Vici event.

The producers of this video are Street Artist Pictures also out of San Francisco, check out their main site or their myspace for more updates.  The darkness of Eskmo’s remix is matched by the darkness of the video.  Girls made up like dolls writhe about and cry for unknown reasons.  Edits go along with the glitchy feel and all in all the video matches the song very well.  Nice to see proper videos done for dubstep songs, it’s quite rare.  Respect to all involved.

Coalition of the Killing – We Are The Glitch Remixes (DJG, Eskmo, Rozanski, J Rogers)

Coalition of the Killing - We are the Glitch RemixesOut tomorrow (3/24) exclusively on Addictech is this four-track EP of remixes of Coalition of the Killing on San Francisco based Blipswitch Digital.  It includes two different takes on “We Are The Glitch” from DJG and Eskmo, a dark refix of “Psychobabble” by Rozanski, and a dub techno rework of “You Are Everything Also” by J. Rogers.  Straight to the tunes:

Coalition of the Killing – We Are The Glitch (DJG Remix)

First up is DJG’s remix of “We Are The Glitch,” a deep, heavy stepper guaranteed to mash up the dance.  Sublow bass carries the song along with melodic pads and killer bongos.  Really enjoying this tune, highlight of the EP in my book.

Coalition of the Killing – You Are Everything Also (J. Rogers Everything is Nothing Too Mix)

The second song on the EP is a reworking of “You Are Everything Also” by J Rogers (the Everything Is Nothing Too mix).  This one slows it down to 133bpm in a dub techno style.  This is typical of Blipswitch releases, everything walks the thin line between dubstep and dub techno.  This one’s got a wobble that would rival any dubstep song with IDM-like clicks and bleeps in the treble from the original.  Quality.

Coalition of the Killing – We Are The Glitch (Eskmo Remix)

Third up is the Eskmo remix of We Are The Glitch.  This one is more minimal overall than the DJG remix with a glitchy melody and deep bass.  Watch out for the 4×4 bits though at about 2:45, definitely hype!

Coalition of the Killing – Psychobabble (Rozanski Psychotic Dub)

Finally we have audio murderation courtesy Rozanski on the Psychobabble (Rozanski Psychotic Dub) version.  A dirty lead synth floats along over 4×4 and halftime beats.  One for the filth massive.  Big it!

Surefire Monthly Launch this Saturday

I’m normally not going to promote shows except to announce that they’re happening, but this one on Saturday is worthy of a second mention. I decided to start this site because of how much I enjoy the vibrant scene for dubstep here in San Francisco, and this Saturday’s launch of the new Surefire monthly is basically a showcase of some of the finest producers and DJs from the area. Also, it’s FREE. It’s at a new venue called “The Triple Crown” at Market and Octavia. I haven’t been to this spot yet but I’ve heard good things. This Friday night is also big with two events: Grime City and Rusko / Ooah, but save some energy for this Surefire opening.

Now I’m going to post some select audio from some of the people that will be at this night in the form of two songs and two mixes. First up is DJG’s stellar remix of Coalition of the Killing – We are the Glitch. I honestly can’t get enough of this song, I’ll be making a post on the whole remix EP soon. Next, we have an exclusive from Kozee which is a perfect example of what I like about this scene – fresh sounds coming at you always. This song brings a complex but very danceable beat with a monster snare and glitched out vocals. Watch out for this one on Saturday. Last up we have two mixes, Jus Wan on Electronic Explorations and Rastatronics live in Oakland recently. Check it out for yourself, this event is going to be huge:

Much respect to Kozee, DJG and J. Rogers for the tunes, out to Antiserum with the technical problems. Sad to hear it.

Big ups to the Surefire crew – this monthly already has some killer talent signed on for future events, trust. Watch this space for more info.
